Share the Music
Share the Music - About the Program
Since 1999, thousands of tickets have been provided to youth ages 8 to 18 in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, free of charge, so that they may experience the magic of a live concert at Roy Thomson Hall and Massey Hall.
Participants also attend a pre-concert workshop hosted by noted local performers. Occasionally, the guest artists themselves meet and chat with the students. The workshops are usually a mix of informative commentary, musical demonstrations and interactive activities, and are designed to stimulate and enhance the concert experience for the participants.
Tickets are also provided for teacher and parent escorts, and complimentary refreshments are served following the workshops, providing a multi-generational and social aspect to the occasion.
Some of the illustrious performers selected for past Share the Music events: Canadian Brass, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Tango Buenos Aires, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma, Paco de Lucia, Lang Lang, Chick Corea Elektric Band, Ravi & Anoushka Shankar, Wayne Shorter Quartet, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Peru Negro, Bobby McFerrin, Yamato Drummers of Japan, Herbie Hancock Trio, Angela Hewitt, Les Violons Du Roy, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, and more.
